Design during the Old Republic, the Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser was the largest warship and the principal cruiser of the Republic during the Clone Wars. It take a great place in the war but it gradually replace by the newly design Victory-Class Star Destroyer. After the defeat of the Republic, the Empire introduce many heavy starship and technologie, but the dreadnaught still used in Imperial navy in the Outer Rim. It is also used by many independant governement and military faction. The Dreadnaught suffered from significant problems, even when new. It was slow, hampered by inefficient power generators, which also resaulted in weak shield projection, low fire power, and computer systems subject to frequent surges. Add to this that the vessel needed a massive crew complement to keep it runnung, and it is easy to see why it wasn't long before the Old Republic military was looking for a replacement.

KATANA FLEET

Known by some as the "Dark Force" because of its ships' dark gray hulls, the Katana Fleet consisted of two hundred slave-rigged Dreadnaughts. Along with the dark gray hull resurfacing, the interiors were also redesigned with blue-gold upholstery, making the ships further unique. Because of the full-rig slave circuitry, one ship in the fleet could slave all one hundred and ninety-nine others and control them remotely. The fleet became a legend when it was to attend to an Old Republic public-relations drive on its maiden voyage. During one of its ports of call, one crewer or more picked up a deadly hive virus, and it quickly spread throughout, infecting all the crew. This particular virus would drive the infected to insanity, a few hours before they died altogether from it. In their madness, the dying crewmen slaved all the ships together, and and hyperspaced to a location that would not be widely known until five years after the Battle of Endor. Ten years prior to Endor, a smuggling freighter running from Imperials accidentally stumbled upon the fleet, and two of the crewmen, Talon Karrde and Captain Hoffner, memorized the coordinates. Karrde kept the information to himself while Hoffner sold the location to former Old Republic senator Garm Bel Iblis. He took six of the legendary vessels and used them for his own strikeforce. Five years after the Battle of Endor, Grand Admiral Thrawn was in a tight race with the New Republic to find the ships, but he did manage to beat the Republic to them, capturing 179 of the Dreadnaughts. Even though the ships' slave circuitry reduced the crew complement to 2,000 from about 20,000, Thrawn still could not crew all of them. However, he planned to use the Emperor's hidden Spaarti cloning cylinders to produce the people he needed. But all of them were completely destroyed in a New Republic raid on the Spaarti cylinder storehouse, and so rendered the captured Dreadnaughts useless to the Empire. Most of the All Terrain Personal Transport (AT-PT) vehicles, the predecessor to the later AT-AT and AT-ST, were aboard the Katana Fleet and plans to produce them in large quantities was abandoned when the fleet vanished.

KATANA

This slave-rigged Dreadnaught was the flagship of the Katana Fleet. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo fought Imperial clone troops aboard the Katana five years after the Battle of Endor.

HARRIER

The Harrier was one of six Dreadnaughts in Senator Garm-Bel Iblis's strikeforce, originating from the Katana Fleet. It was sent by Garm Bel Iblis to fly Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and the Bothan Tav Breil'lya back to New Cov, where Breil'lya's ship was waiting. When Garm Bel Iblis joined the New Republic, the Harrier joined with the other five Dreadnaughts. It subsequently fought against the task force led by Grand Admiral Thrawn when they appeared in Coruscant space, and then was used to find the cloaked asteroids Thrawn had left in the orbit of the planet. Sena Leikvoid Midanyl, the aide of Bel Iblis, had two sons serving onboard the Harrier, Peter and Dayvid.

PEREGRINE

Garm Bel Iblis's flagship was the Peregrine, one of six full-rig slaved Dreadnaughts that he led for his private strikeforce. Bel Iblis led two other Dreadnaughts on the Peregrine to backup New Republic forces at the location of the Katana Fleet, where Imperial Star Destroyers were attacking. He subsequently joined New Republic, and it is presumed that the Peregrine and its sister ships joined as well.

GLORY

A weapons and propulsion test bed built on a Dreadnaught hull, the ship codenamed EX-F was docked at the Black 15 repair yard when the Yevetha took it over. It was rechristened the Glory under Yevetha command twelve years after the Battle of Endor, but was unable to join their inital attacks against the New Republic because of its odd propulsion system.

VENDETTA

The Vendetta was the ship Ambassador Furgan of the Imperial planet Carida used to travel to Anoth, where he planned to capture Anakin Solo. The Vendetta was destroyed when it tried to escape from the Calamari Star Cruiser Galactic Voyager, running into and blown apart by the electrical atmosphere of Anoth.
