Marauder corvettes are 195-meter-long light cruisers that are aerdynamically streamlined for atmospheric combat. They have long, sleek bodies with extended airfoils and look more like oversized fighters than combat cruisers. They have a top planetary speed of 850 kilometers per hour and a sublight speed slightly faster than that of the old Victory-class Star Destroyer. Marauders are not powerful enough for fleet engagements against Imerial Navy vessels, but they are excellent starships for system patrol and smuggling interdiction efforts. The Marauder is often called called an "Assault Ship" because of it's effectiveness against pirate and mercenary forces, which tend to fly less advanced starships.
In combat, Marauders often are deployed in pairs and are used to supplement the firepower of Victory Star Destroyers and Invincible heavy cruisers. Their tractor-beam projectors are particulary useful in interdiction missions because they can capture ships before their prey can escape into hyperspace.
