Medium starship. Designed to give convoys escort protection against starfighter attacks. It has its own complement of up to two squadrons. The Nebulon-B Frigate is a medium length capital ship that saw much use in the Imperial and Rebel fleets in the Galactic Civil War. It is an oddly shaped craft, with a large fore section that tapers down to a very thin hull, filling out once more towards the aft. While not nearly powerful enough to confront larger capital ships, the Nebulon-B Frigate is very effective against starfighters and smaller cruisers. Its turbolasers can punch through heavy shields, while its laser cannons can track and destroy smaller, quicker-moving starfighters. It is also very difficult to destroy; the hull is so thin that precise targeting is required to hit it, and the fore and aft are heavily defended by the craft's weapons and shields.

Nebulon-B Frigates are found in many fleets across the galaxy. The Imperial Navy, which already had a full complement of capital ships in their Star Destroyers, used the Nebulon-B as a support cruiser. They were perfect garrison ships for depots and convoys. The Rebels couldn't afford to throw their larger ships into a supply raid, and the Nebulon-B was quite capable of repulsing starfighter attacks. This tactic was so successful that the Alliance designed a starfighter, the B-wing, specifically to combat the Nebulon-B.

The Rebel Alliance was unable to purchase Nebulon-B Frigates. Kuat Drive Yards, the producer of the the Nebulon-B, had close Imperial connections. So, while the Alliance desperately needed larger cruisers, it was forced to capture or steal the Nebulon-B. The ones it did manage to procure were used as command ships in larger battles. Even though the Nebulon-B didn't stand a chance against Imperial Star Destroyers, it gave the Rebels some heavier firepower when not confronting ships as powerful as ISDs. After the Mon Calamari donated their large Cruisers to the Rebellion, the Nebulon-B was reassigned to support and medical duty. It was particularly successful as a medical ship, a role for which it became known in the Alliance Fleet; the Nebulon-B was often called a "Medical Frigate".

ANTARES SIX

The Antares Six was one of a pair of Escort Frigates that accompanied the Millenium Falcon to Coruscant on their mission to rescue the crew of the downed Liberator.

EVANRUE

During the appearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn's task force near Coruscant's orbit, the Evanrue sustained heavy damage from a collision with a cloaked asteroid.

LARKHESS

The Frigate Larkhess was one of the New Republic ships assigned to cargo hauling in the Sluis Van shipyards, after Grand Admiral Thrawn's task force had made a brief attack in the Bpfassh system. While all the strongest ships were assigned to help with the cleanup operation in Bpfassh, Grand Admiral Thrawn's task force appeared in the Sluis Van shipyards and unleashed 51 mole miners. These vessels would borough into the skeleton crewed ships and fly off with them. The Larkhess was one of the ships that was attacked by a mole miner, but Lando Calrissian used a radio code to shut down all 51 of the prying vessels. Like all the other ships, the mole miner did manage to destroy the Larkhess's core and left it severely damaged.

QUENFIS

The frigate allocated by Admiral Drayson to investigate the supposed location of the Katana Fleet. New Republic Councilor Borsk Fey'lya came onboard, and handpicked the crew to make sure they were all loyal to him. When a Star Destroyer reverted out of hyperspace in the area, Fey'lya ordered the captain to recall the Quenfis's X-wings and jump out, leaving only Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Luke Skywalker, and Rogue Squadron to deal with the Judicator. Leia Organa Solo, who was onboard, turned on the comm- link and tricked Fey'lya into telling all his supporters how much he cared about them, causing all of the X-wing pilots who were once loyal to him to stay and assist Rogue Squadron. Captain Virgilo had Fey'lya removed from the bridge and, with the help from three of Garm Bel Iblis's Dreadnaughts, fought off the Judicator and another Star Destroyer that came to back it up.

REBEL STAR

One of two Escort Frigates that assisted the Millenium Falcon's crew on their mission to rescue the crew of the destroyed Alliance Star Destroyer Liberator on Coruscant, the Rebel Star met an untimely death when it collided with the wreckage of warships in the planet's orbit.
