Designed by General Jan Dodonna and Rebel engineer Walex Blissex, the A-wing was intended to outrun any starfighter in the Imperial Navy. Unfortunately, that record was broken by the TIE advanced x1. It is very manueverable and is rated at the same level as the TIE fighter.

The A-wing is small, difficult to fly, and quite fragile. Even one good laser shot at an unshielded hull can destroy the craft while glancing hits can severly damage it since all the ship's components are wedged inside a 9.6 meter long hull. However, a well trained pilot can make the A-wing an incredible threat.

Originally designed to defend Rebel bases and convoys, it was soon found that they were much better at "hit and fade" runs and reconaisence. They were often paired with other fighters during these quick strikes and used their special jamming equipment to prevent the enemy from calling for help.

Weapons on the A-wing are light with only a pair of lasers. However, these lasers have a pivot allowing them to shoot either 60 degrees up or down giving them a far wider range of fire than fixed lasers. They can even be modified to fire backwards! Concussion missile launchers are usually added to increase its firepower substantualy.
